Phenology

The Phenology model in APSIM NG simulates the development of lentil plants.

Thermal Time

Daily Thermal Time is calculated using a three cardinal temperature response curve with different parameters for pre-emergence and post-emergence phases.

Photoperiod

The daily photoperiod is calculated using the PhotoperiodFunction with -6 degrees twilight. See Photoperiod for more details.

Stages and Phases

The numerical system is used to represent the development of lentil plants starting from 1. The stages are:

Stage Name Description
1 Sowing Seeds are planted in the soil
2 Germination Seeds absorb water and begin to sprout
3 Emergence Seedlings break through the soil surface
4 FloralInitiation Plant initiates floral meristems
5 FirstBudsVisiable First buds become visible
6 FirstFlowersSet First flowers set and bloom
7 FirstPodsVisiable First pods become visible
8 FirstGrainsVisiable First grains become visible in pods
9 TerminalNode Main stem reaches terminal node
10 LastPodsDeveloped Final pods have developed
11 LastGrainsFilled Final grain filling is complete
12 HarvestRipe Grains are fully ripened and ready for harvest

Phases are used to represent the development between two stages. The phases are:

Order Name From To
1 Germinating Sowing Germination
2 Emerging Germination Emergence
3 Juvenile Emergence FloralInitiation
4 Inductive FloralInitiation FirstBudsVisiable
5 FirstFlowersDeveloping FirstBudsVisiable FirstFlowersSet
6 FirstPodsDeveloping FirstFlowersSet FirstPodsVisiable
7 FirstGrainsDeveloping FirstPodsVisiable FirstGrainsVisiable
8 FirstGrainsFilling FirstGrainsVisiable TerminalNode
9 FinalPodsDeveloping TerminalNode LastPodsDeveloped
10 FinalGrainsFilling LastPodsDeveloped LastGrainsFilled
11 Ripening LastGrainsFilled HarvestRipe
12 ReadyForHarvesting HarvestRipe Unused
