Phenology
The Phenology model in APSIM NG simulates the development of chickpea plants.
Thermal Time
Daily Thermal Time is calculated using a three cardinal temperature response curve with different parameters for pre-emergence and post-emergence phases.
Photoperiod
The daily photoperiod is calculated using the PhotoperiodFunction with -6 degrees twilight. See Photoperiod for more details.
Stages and Phases
The numerical system is used to represent the development of chickpea plants starting from 1. The stages are:

| 7 | EndFlowering | Flowering is complete |
| 8 | EndPodInitiation | Pod initiation is complete |
| 9 | MidGrainFilling | Midpoint of grain filling |
| 10 | LateGrainFilling | Late stage of grain filling |
| 11 | EndGrainFill | Grain filling is complete; seeds reach final size |
| 12 | Maturity | Seeds reach physiological maturity |
| 13 | HarvestRipe | Seeds are fully ripened and ready for harvest |
