Germinating
The Germinating is a phenological phase in Chickpea used to represent the development period from Sowing to Germination. It determines whether the seed has germinated based on soil temperature and soil water.
Overview
The GerminatingPhase model is used to simulate the germination of chickpea seeds. This phase begins when Plant Sowing occurs and ends when the plant has germinated under suitable conditions of soil temperature and soil water. See GerminatingPhase for more details.
Requirements for Germination
- The soil temperature must exceed a minimum threshold for germination to occur
- The soil water content should be more than the lower limit for germination to proceed
Cultivar-Specific Parameters
The germinating phase uses cultivar-specific parameters that define the environmental thresholds required for successful germination.
| Name | Description | Default Value |
|---|---|---|
| [Phenology].Germinating.MinSoilTemperature | Minimum soil temperature for germination (°C) | 0 |
Practical Considerations
Successful chickpea germination depends on:
- Soil moisture: Adequate moisture is essential for seed imbibition and activation of metabolic processes
- Soil temperature: Temperature affects the rate of enzymatic reactions during germination
The model accurately simulates these environmental controls to predict germination timing under field conditions.
